It includes updates to Panasonics DFD autofocus system, creative photo modes, and video features that come close to matching the more expensive S1H.OK, so, I just tried to print and, following Costcos directions, my horizontal prints would not work.
The second print was also the same problem but, oddly, they instruct you to do the jpeg at 150 (which, normally is OK too but, since all the other sizes are 300 dpi, it raised flags for me) It had the crop warning and a pixilation warningprobably from that odd 150 setting they said to use. Fc Photo Viewer 3.2 Full Frame OnHow do you print at Costco via the Photo Department web site What is the trick Do you do all at 300 or, do you also do the 150 for the larger print sizes How do you avoid this annoying crop warning and print full frame on any size paper you send an image to. Then I tried doing my image no longer then the shorter length. Trying a larger DPI also, did not seem to eliminate the resolution warning either on the cropped image at larger size. If you take such an image and order a print of 8x10, 11x14, or 16x20 inches, there will be substantial cropping. On the other hand, 4x6 inches ought to print with very little cropping, and 5x7 ought to print with only a little cropping. Just basic printing from Windows Photo Viewer to a local printer gives you that option. However, setting it up on your end to get what you want is a surer option, if you know how and are willing to make the effort. What Ive done in the past (using Photoshop) is to first create the page size I want in PS, such as 11x14, and then shrink my image to fit onto that page. That way the computer sees a standard size page and doesnt try to alter it. As far as I can tell, there is no option or method to scale down an image with an aspect ratio different from that of the print youre ordering so that you get the entire original image plus a border. I seriously doubt this had anything to do with horizontal versus vertical. I tried both while logged into the Costco Photo Center website, ordering 4x6 inch prints of images that Id set up for 8x10s--in other words, theres no way to have Costco set up a 4x5-inch image area on a 4x6-inch print. Mike Earussis response ( ) is a variant (more specific version of) of the first method I listed. IMO for best results, the file you set up should be specifically sized for the print size you want (what Mike said) when you are downscaling your photo to fit, but just sized for the aspect ratio of the print you want (what I said) when you would otherwise need to upscale your photo for that print size (because the odds are the RIP associated with Costcos printer is going to do a better upscaling than your own software would). The idea that, one can just tell a photo print service (any, apparently) to simply place an image on a sheet of paper and just fit it on the paper (like moving an enlarger up or down in the dark room to print an image on photo paper with some white around it or cropped in some way, to use an archaic example) seems to be a UX option that is just missing. Fit image on (size) paper with no distortion (retain aspect ratio). Which is why it receives our top award.
